Empowering Families with Essential Support and Hope for a Brighter Future

Following the success of the Ndumberi floods relief operation in April 2024, Face of Kenya extended its support to the Mai Mahiu town in Rift valley region, which was the more affected by the April 29th floods catastrophe that killed over 50 persons, displaced over 100 families and destroyed their livelihoods. On September 1, 2024, the foundation launched a relief mission in Mai Mahiu where a whole village is struggling to survive after losing loved ones and livelihoods.

In response, Face of Kenya once again stepped in, providing essential supplies such as food, bedding, and clothing to those in need. However, recognizing that the impact of the disaster extended far beyond the physical, the foundation also focused on addressing the deep psychological trauma experienced by the survivors. Many of the flood victims, particularly mothers who lost children and husbands, were grappling with depression and a sense of hopelessness.

To support these women, Face of Kenya initiated a program aimed at helping sisters who were greatly affected and in dire need regain stability by paying their house rents and seed capital to start small businesses. The foundation is actively working to secure additional funds to support these programs, ensuring that the women not only have the emotional support they need but also the financial backing to rebuild their livelihoods. This initiative is part of a larger effort to promote long-term recovery and resilience in the affected communities.

The psychological toll of the floods has been immense, and Face of Kenya has made it a priority to provide both emotional and financial support to the most vulnerable. So far, the foundation has assisted more than 15 families in Mai Mahiu and Ndumberi, helping them find a way forward in the wake of the disaster. By empowering these families to rebuild their lives, Face of Kenya is demonstrating its commitment to community upliftment that goes beyond immediate relief, focusing on sustainable recovery and resilience.

Face of Kenya could not have accomplished this without the unwavering support of its donors. The foundation deeply appreciates the generosity of Kenyans both within the country and abroad, in places such as the UK, USA, Germany, Norway, and across the world. Their contributions have made a profound difference in the lives of flood victims, allowing Face of Kenya to bring hope and healing to those in need. The foundation remains committed to continuing its work, knowing that with the continued support of its global community, they can help more families rebuild their lives and thrive once again.
